The Start of Yellow Clamshells

The other day, about a week ago really, my Mum came home on her lunch break with the best little present. She'd found a fabric store just off the main road that neither of us new was there. So she took a look around and made friends with the owner and started talking about me. They talked about how I'd just gotten really into quilting (I'd just finished my third and it was the only one I did right) and how I'm obsessed with yellow. So this amazing lady brought out boxes of just yellow fabric and my Mum brought home about $20 worth (17 fat quarters) of beautiful vintage yellows. That's where I started.

I googled and scoured the internet trying to find the perfect thing. I wanted to finally make something for myself with all these yellows but nothing caught my eye. I didn't want stripes or checks. Cathedral windows were pretty but not quite right. Then I saw this and I got pointed in the right direction. But this free pattern was exactly what I wanted. It's a traditional clam shell quilt, but it's enlarged to make it workable on a sewing machine. It has plans already for a bunch of different sizes so all that math is done. And it's perfect.

Another trip to the fabric store and a busted budget later (I can't be blamed, it was my first time in a real fabric store) and I have beautiful stacks of yellow and gray and navy fabric across my floor. I'm about halfway done with just tracing and cutting the fabric and I'm already due to go back to the store. But I plan on keeping track of my progress here, and I'll put up some pictures when I actually have something to photograph.
